Getting Ready

We have been busy this last week getting all the things done so we can submit our Mission application papers.


We went to the doctors and got poked and humiliated to see if we could live for 18 more months. They took 9 test tubes of blood from each of us. They will test the blood to see if we have still antibodies for the diseases that we have had shots for in the past. Marlene had just prior to the Missionary physical been up the Huntsman Cancer Center for her yearly screening. They took 4 test tubes of blood there so all in all she gave 13 tubes of the precious liquid. The worse part of the whole thing was when Dr Wendy Macy, Yup it is a girl, had me drop my drawers to check my prostrate. It hurt me both Physically and Emotionally.

We then went then to the dentist. Well, all of my old fillings had to come out. I thought just being old was Ok. As it has been with me personally! But Steve Wright would not go for It. So out with the old in in for the new. These guys don,t like to do fillings much so I got to have new caps. Marlene had been to the dentist just a couple of months ago so she got a free pass.

We had Todd take some pictures so we could put one on the application. The old folks look pretty good. Mom is sure a good looking Grandma.






Now we next get to visit with the Bishop and the Stake President. Then we wait.

sad days for the glads

Our oldest son's wife, Shaylynn, passed away on March 19th. She has been struggling with health problems for many years. She was almost in constant pain and had difficulty in eating. She has had many surgeries and has been in and out of the hospital almost constantly. It is very sad that she is gone but She is now in a better place where there in no pain and suffering. We hurt to see the pain that Todd has had to go through at this early time in his life. We know that life will go on but takes time for the hurt to go away from the separation but like the song goes

"All is Well"

We needed some time away so we went to California to visit with our Grandchildren, Nathan, Megan and Tyler. There parents were there also. We had a great time hugging and telling stories. We may not see them for more than a couple of years as we are planning to go on a Mission for 18 months. Nathan had a great time teaching Grandma how to play the Piano

We went bowling with all of the kids. It was great fun. Tyler was a little weak on his throw, A man from the Alley had to come and push the ball so it would get to the pins one time. Me, Marlene, Megan, Nathan, and Tyler with Angels help played. Roy was kind enough to pretend to have a sore back so we could play.

We drove to Las Vegas and stayed one Night before getting back to Salt Lake all tired out. Angel called and said the after we left that Tyler packed his bag and asked her to take him to see Grandma and Grandpa. We are glad to be back home.

We go to the doctor to get our Physicals Friday. Time is going by!

We survived this week so far

This has been a sad week, I am really feeling so mixed emotions,. Todds wife that has been his companion for 25 years passed away Wednesday. March 19. We were in the temple and the secretary said I had a message. My daughter was crying so I knew it was bad. Dwayne met me after I changed to my street clothes and we went to Todds.

It was unreal seeing her just laying in her bed not alive.! There were all my family except Angel and family. After they took her away, a tough thing for us,we had a family prayer and gave Todd a blessing . Thank good ness for our church and their benefits of comfort. We beleive she will be alive again. She will have a sweet release from the body that sometimes was so frail she had to be in a doctors care alot.

Anyway. The viewing is at 65oo Redwood Rd. Memorial Sunday night at 6-to 8. This is Easter and he is happy we are having it then. The funeral is Monday 31. at 11:00 . Kearns 21st Ward. 4270 West 5700 South. A viewing an hour before It will be a tough day or two. Pray for the Glads. She will be buried in Fairview , Utah.

I hope to write some happy news next time. Thank goodness for Easter and the resurrection. Happy Easter!

Things are Great

Our Grandson Jimmy, who had a brain tumor removed 3 years ago, had his follow up MRI today. He is still stable. We were worried because on the last test there was a light spot on the film. The test was to follow up and see if there was any change. We are so happy.

We can now get ready to serve another Mission for our Church. We wanted to be sure that every thing was settled with Jimmy before we put our papers in. We are trying to figure what to do with our home while we are gone. We hope that maybe Bruce and Tara come to here to attend the University of Utah. So They can stay in our home while we are gone.

I moved the computer and all of my other stuff in to Bruce's old bedroom. I now have my own den. It was a lot of work. I had to move all of the cables from the our bedroom in to the new den. I put the wires from the closet in the TV room into the attic and the down the closet in the my new den. It was a lot of work crawling around in the attic pulling the wires. Then when we were moving the computer desk the legs broke off. I fixed it so now every thing it ok.

It looks pretty good and mom is excited about a lot of empty spaces in the bedroom.

Spring is here the flowers are starting to come up. The only bad thing I can thing of is that the ducks are back in our pond. The fish made it through the winter now if the ducks don't eat them all we will be ok.

Long time since we wrote

I have not written for a few weeks. Dwayne is completely recovered from his bout with pnuemonia. We did some drastic rearrangeing of furniture yesterday. We moved the computer into The extra bedroom. I do not know how to react when I go in the bedroom and not see a computer and stuff that goes with it. It was alot of crawling for Dwayne in the attic to feed the wires to the next room. It is good that he could do it.

We are planning a short trip to California from March 21 to 28 with three days in Las Vegas on Fremont Street. We will get to our grandkids that live in Cal and our daughter Angel and her husband Roy. We have not spent Easter away before. I will miss being with the kids in Utah.

We went to see the grandkids in Kearns cause I hadn't seen them for awhile. I do not get to show them much attention, when we have a family party. It was fun and it was cute to have Amadna say give me a kiss when we were leaving. I get to see my grandkids on my street more often, that is neat too but I see them more.

Stuart was ordained a Priest and Ben was ordained a deacon in January. It is neat to see them advance. Stu was also set apart as leader Sunday. It is neat to see them grow up and advance in their responsibilities. We pray that Jimmys MRI will be negative tomorrow. I do not want to Melody and Marty's family go through more stree.!

Bruce and Tara are planning to come sometime in the week because they are out of school for Spring Break. It will be fun to see them.

Long Time, no write.

I have not written for a long time. We have been busy. We went on a tip to Mesquite Feb 9 to 12th. We went to a Musical" Man of La Mancha" (spelling). It was very well done. We really enjoyed it.and it brought back memories.Professionaly , Robert Peterson an acotr who lived in my ward for years, used to make it so enjoyable. I remember when one of my sons was in it I believe it was Clay, at his high school.

We visited with my brother Dean and his wife. They have been living in St George for years. They usually live there in the winter and go to their home in Star Valley in the summer. My nephew and his wife were also visiting. We went to the wonderful leadership meeting with them . It was a wonderful reinforcement of the importance of family.

We sat in the hot tub and drove around St George and Mesquite and looked at houses. It was fun.

Last month, Angel had the misfortune of having a termination of a pregnancy we were all looking forward to. number 12. It was not to be. Then the news of Pres Hinckleys passing, were some sad things that we had to deal with. I am pleased that the people in her area and ward were there to help her through this time.

Bruce and Tara came down 12th to talk to the people at the U.of U. He is hopeing to get accepted into the Social Program there. He has been accepted to the college, but wants to be in the program there. we had the priviledge of having them stay until Wed morning so they could drive back without having the storm make their journey unsafe..They are doing well and have to make some decisions about their schooling. It is fun to see them so happy.

We had womens conference at our Stake today. It gave me alot to comtemplate. I wonder what else I am do on earth? What is MY MISSION? I have done alot but have I done enough? Sister Nelson gave us a great guide line to follow. I hope to be inspired.

Dad is back to about 99% he is eating well and goes to excercise quite regularly. He even has painted some pictures lately. He encouraged me to go to an open house bridal shower today after I been away all morning. That was nice of him and I was happy I went even though I had not bought a present yet and had to go buy one. It was nice of hime to think of me needing to support someone and see some nice people.

We got a rebate check and went crazy with our food storage yesterday. The check is when you spend via American Express at the end of the year you get a percentage back. Well we spent all that and more. It was a good feeling to see all the food we bought.

I got to go cook some of that good food, before the Jazz game.

surviving winter

It has been an interesting week. First Angel called to say Pres. Hinckley had passed away. Then Tuesday Roy called to say that Angel had a terrible misscarriage. This was to be number 12 and she was to excitedly announce that it was a boy or girl. I feel so tender for her and our prayers are with her and her family. These are not easy moments.

I will miss Pres Hinckley in our every day lives. Everything we do we are affected by his counsel and loving ways.

Dad is improving, and still hates winter. I am trying to light up the rooms more so he can have some sun. We went to the temple Wed and Thrusday. The new schedules for Wednesday finally have given him a session.! We have the same schedule for the first time in about a year. He was at the reccomend desks for about 19 months. This will be neat, although we will be staying late once in a while.

It is nice to see friends in the temple. I saw Lani Lawrence and her neice Thrursday, and Parks who used to live in our ward. A sister Zetner who comes every Thursday knitted me a cute towel holder. She is so sweet, I have seen her for about 6 years and only talked to her once in a while she is 84.

We went to celebrate Bens Birthday, Thursday after temple. It was fun to eat at the Chinese Buffet and the clown paid extra attention to us and gave each of the kids a balloon toy and Ben an extreme balloon hat and a deck of trick cards.

We plan to go on a short trip next week to get out of the snow. I hope the weather co-operates.!

Life is good but I hope my daughter-in- law Shaylynn gets better soon.!
